Pick up your HANDOUT at the gallery anytime after noon on the 8th which will indicate the locale of each of the artists so you can watch them in action. They should all be within walking distance of the gallery. But keep moving – there are 18 artists you’ll want to visit!
Also that day, beginning at noon, there will be art demonstrations by Dave Harned and Betsy Barry and an opportunity to sign up for fall art classes followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the afternoon hosted by the Mystic Chamber of Commerce for the brand new Betsy Barry Studio/Gallery, featuring the acclaimed Old Lyme artist’s explorations of nature and botanicals in colored pencil and signature housewares. In addition, the Russ Kramer Marine Art Gallery and Studio will be offering special one-day pricing on yachting and America’s Cup prints, and the Uptown Gallery will be showing new works by many of the area’s finest painters. All three of these art spaces are located on the second floor above the Finer Line Gallery.
Note that the Wine Reception and Wet Paint Sale will begin at 5:30 under the tents in the evening, located on the green in between the Finer Line building and the former Bank of America building on West Main. Everyone will have a chance to purchase any of the paintings by entering their name on the sale sheet to purchase at the reserved retail price set by the artist. Note that a higher offer can be made to “outbid” what the current offer is (only increments of $100 or more are accepted) and a final call for bids will be made between 6:30 and 6:45.
Remember that the gallery’s commission will be cut in half on any of the wet paint sales so here’s your chance to put a lot more money directly in the pocket of the artist. So, loosen up those purse strings and buy 2 or 3!
DRAWING – for anyone who “bids” on a piece of artwork, whether they “win” it or not, their name will be entered into a chance to win the framed, limited edition of “Time Transcending” by Don Demers (image from above) – a beautiful sold out edition of the Mystic River, as viewed from the Seaport grounds.
PARKING – The Mystic Museum of Art’s parking lot will be open for parking at no charge that day since their booth is currently undergoing reconstruction. Pearl Street is your next best option for parking.
We are making every effort to be COVID compliant:
The area for the reception will be roped off and there will be an attendant at the entrance. Masks will be mandatory and we’ll ask that people either stay with their close group of family/friends or try to maintain the 6′ barrier inside the tent area. Wine will be served in throwaway cups; no food will be served. If any artist or member of the public is not comfortable being near other people it’s not necessary that they stay within the reception area to enjoy the event – just no drinks outside of private property. Anyone who is currently under quarantine (or have any of the COVID symptoms) we respectfully ask that you not attend.
The gallery – both upstairs and downstairs – will remain open all day and throughout the evening which will allow for a lot of cycling throughout the event. Public restrooms are just down the street beside the Mystic Museum of Art – 3 doors down. We will also have bottles of hand sanitizers located throughout the venue.
Hopefully these measures minimize any of your health concerns – we certainly don’t want to put anyone at risk nor do we want anyone attending who would feel uncomfortable venturing out.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
